Purpose and Application

  • Used to measure hardness and shock absorption in turf surfaces.

  • Particularly suitable for golf greens to assess quality and playing characteristics.

Function

  • A 0.5 kg hammer drops through a guide tube and impacts the surface.

  • Measures deceleration upon impact and expresses it as Gravities (G-value) — higher G = harder surface.

  • Provides objective data on surface performance and consistency.

Design and Operation

  • Robust construction for frequent use in wet and dirty environments.

  • Digital display on the guide tube (backlit).

  • Powered by 2 AA batteries with up to approx. 12 months of operation.
